The Brown Hyena Research Project is self-funded and relies entirely on donations. The main sponsors are Namdeb, Caltex, Wilderness Safaris Wildlife Trust, Nedbank Go Green Fund, Succulent Karoo Ecosystem Planning, Critical Ecosystem Partnership Fund and the Namibia Nature Foundation. Further support is giving by the Predator Conservation Trust. Other funding sources are the “Brown Hyena Adoption and Sponsoring Programme” where individuals and companies can sponsor a specific Brown Hyena for an annual donation. The Executive Director and Principal Investigator, Dr. Ingrid Wiesel, is member in the following organisations: IUCN/SSC Hyena Specialist Group, Animal Behaviour Society, Hamburg Society of Behavioural Biology, Large Carnivore Management Association of Namibia, Namibian Wildlife Coalition and Zoological Society of South Africa. Collaborations exist with the Ministry of Environment and Tourism, Namibian Biodiversity Programme, Kunene Lion Project, Namibian Wild Dog Project, Predator Conservation Trust, Save the Rhino Trust, Raleigh International, University of Pretoria, Queens Univeristy in Canada and University of Central Florida.
